Slandering immigrants and visible minorities is disgraceful

by , under Enrique

A politician of the Perussuomalaiset (PS) party has come under fire today for claiming on Facebook that all refugees and asylum seekers are social bums and rapists, reports YLE. Migrant Tales published on Sunday a blog entry citing a ministry of justice researcher, who claimed that certain anti-immigration groups in Finland distort crime statistics in order to attract voters and label immigrant groups.

While the PS city councilman, Mika Hiltunen, appears too lazy to use and exaggerate crime statistics as others from his party, he does show his racism with shameless gusto.

Osmo Kokko, a PS MP from Joensuu, located near Hiltunen’s home town of Kontiolahti, was quoted as saying on YLE that Hiltunen’s comments don’t represent the party’s policy on refugees.

Migrant Tales spoke earlier today to Hannu Niemi  of the ministry of justice, who stood by what he said on Länsi-Uusimaa. He blamed indirectly journalists as well for using immigrant crime statistics to label some national groups.

Reija Härkönen writes a lot about the anti-immigration Counterjihadists of the PS. Two of these are MPs James Hirvisaari and Jussi Halla-aho.

Both MPs, who have been convicted for inciting ethnic hatred, have proven over and over again that they will go to any length to spread their wise tales.

Markku Huusko, editor of Uusi Suomi, wrote in 2011 about how both MPs accused a 17-year-old asylum seeker of raping a young woman in Lammi. All charges were later dropped against the asylum seeker.

Despite the social-media lynch mob instigated by Halla-aho and Hirvisaari, both have yet to apologize for what they wrote.

Niemi said that it’s not his job to raise debate since he is a researcher, but “it’s the journalists who do that.”

Not only do Hirvisaari and Halla-aho have racism issues to deal with like all political parties, but Finnish society, journalists and newspapers as well.

While Hiltunen makes a mistake of mixing Finns and Finnish benefit seekers, and uses pretty harsh language, let’s break his comments in pieces and analyse them:

    1. He despises Finns, WHO rape and assault other people.

-> what is wrong with that? He doesn’t say ALL Finns commit these crimes. I think we all agree that people who rape or assault people are not wanted.

    2. He wonders how anyone can think of Immigrants as a loser who can’t achieve anything without help of Finns.

-> again, good point, how could anyone actually think that they can’t achieve anything without us?

    3. He says we don’t need welfare abusing Finns

-> that is also true, Finland actually doesn’t NEED them.

    4. Finally he states that most of crimes committed by Finns are done by benefit seekers, compared to Finns who have lived here with their own expense (work related citizenship)

-> that is partially true, he just forgets to take crimes committed by tourists in to account.

So, at the end, it’s not that bad what he writes. The main problem here is HOW he says it, not WHAT he says.

I don’t think it’s legal to modify my text and make it appear like I had written it.

What modification was made and why was it inappropriate? Your English grammar is far from perfect, you know, and our readers appreciate clarity of expression.

From experience we know that your claims about the law in Finland are thoroughly unreliable, so you will have to spell out exactly which law you think has been broken and how you will set about invoking your alleged legal remedy.

There’s nothing secret or mysterious about the law in Finland. It’s there for all to read.

Perhaps you should now put up or shut up.

Or you could simply admit your usual ignorance and leave it at that. Nobody will be surprised.

  2. Farang

But interesting anyway that you seem to agree with my post, when you swapped immigrants and finns. This means that unless you are a racist, you also agree that my points are valid also when immigrants and finns are not swapped 🙂

Funny how you miss the point even while you understand the irrelevance of nationality. Nationality is irrelevant. By prefacing everything with nationality, the connotation between national identity and the traits being discussed is constantly reinforced. That is a process of stigmatisation. And it’s unnacceptable. It would be unnacceptable if it was being done on Finns and it’s unnacceptable when done on immigrants.

      1. He despises people who rape and assault other people.

      2. He wonders how anyone can think of people as a loser who can’t achieve anything without help of someone else.

      3. He says we don’t need welfare abusing people.

      4. Finally he states that most of crimes committed by people are done by poor people, compared to people who can support themselves through work.

If he had said just this, I would have much less beef with him. I still don’t like the way he’s picking on welfare dependents as being ‘abusers’, as again, it still creates stigma where none is necessary. Don’t focus on the people, focus on the system that enables that kind of dependency. And by saying that crime and poverty are linked is only the start – if he thinks that ‘poor’ people are somehow more naturally predisposed to crime, he’s advancing a theory that has no credibility. He might as well just say that human beings will do what they know in order to survive.

I don’t think it’s legal to modify my text and make it appear like I had written it.

You have an anonymous account here on Migrant Tales. If you were to reveal your real name, I would think you had a claim. As it is, it seems some effort was made to highlight the points that were altered, while you were also allowed to comment that this was not your text. I don’t see the problem!

  4. Farang

What modification was made and why was it inappropriate? Your English grammar is far from perfect, you know, and our readers appreciate clarity of expression.

All words “immigrant” were replaced with “finn” and vice versa.

So that is writing something under my name, which is identity theft. Well, just checked and indentity theft is not yet criminalised, so you are correct on that one.

  5. Farang

You have an anonymous account here on Migrant Tales. If you were to reveal your real name, I would think you had a claim.

Well, I just checked and even if someone would use my real name and write stuff, it’s still not a crime in Finland 🙂 But it’s against good manners anyway, can we agree atleast on that?

      Farang

      Well, I just checked

Well we ARE impressed. This comes just a few minutes after you informed us that certain conduct was not legal.

It seems to me that you always write before “checking”.

The reason for your outrage is obvious, Farang, and this is not even a new manoeuvre. You are not seeking to express a cogent logical position, but merely trying to slander minorities by association. This is why a simple switch of “immigrant” and “Finn” causes you such pain.

If Farang molests children, then Farang is a child molester. Isn’t that logically true, Farang? How could you possibly be offended by a logical truth? This way of expressing the point is every bit as logically true as the same assertion concerning “someone”.

Why not try to express yourself in a way that is immune to such substitution? I don’t think you can, and this alone is ample evidence of your racism.

  6. Farang

And it’s unnacceptable. It would be unnacceptable if it was being done on Finns and it’s unnacceptable when done on immigrants.

That’s a dangerous road. People should always be accepted to voice their opinion, no matter what the opinion is.

You are enforcing something which is against free speech.

    • JusticeDemon

Farang supports freedom of hate speech. Why are we not surprised?

You fascists support freedom of hate speech directed against ethnic minorities, but you then object “on principle” when your racism is exposed. If speech is so “free” and you care about it so much, then why do you not champion and defend our right to tell the world what obnoxious racists you are?

You will discover the limits of “free speech” if you falsely advise a flight crew member that there is a bomb on the aircraft. Try sharing the opinion that the President of Finland is a child molester and see how far you get.

Some people seem to think that the right to a personal opinion means the right to express that opinion as fact in all circumstances and regardless of the consequences of doing so. Fortunately in Finland we have criminalised slander, hate speech and reckless public expression, and we hold such criminals to account.

Your racist criminal Master Halla-aho is a notorious example.
