Facebook: Thumbs down to Maria Lohela and hurray for our side!

by , under Enrique Tessieri

When big mainstream parties play along with populist and anti-immigration parties like the Perussuomalaiset (PS)*, which base their campaign on one part hot air and two parts xenophobia and nationalism, you get the government we have today and a speaker of parliament called Maria Lohela

Christian Thibault has been a tireless activist for migrant and human rights in Finland. Here he is below with a group of activists holding up signs to MPs going to vote for the new speaker of parliament.

Good for you! I take my hat off for you Christian and those other brave activists that were with you holding signs that read: Don’t vote for Lohela and Stand up against racism.

In one picture below there is Green Party MP Jani Toivola standing together with the activists.

And that is what Lohela’s questionable track record is: She has said some pretty racist and horrible things about migrants and Muslims. Her whole political message is based on xenophobia.

Those terrible things she has said are the skeletons in her closet that will creep behind her for the rest of her political career, which I and many hope will be short.

The Finnish name of the Finns Party is the Perussuomalaiset (PS). The English names adopted by the PS, like True Finns or Finns Party, promote in our opinion nativist nationalism and xenophobia. We therefore prefer to use the Finnish name of the party on our postings.

Democracy is a bitch…. because the people with opposing opinions and views get to vote too…. The PS party grew out of frustration and overreach by the continuous left-leaning coalitions of the past… Now the PS are the 2nd largest party in the land and part of an almost unimagined-before “porvarihallitus”…. and you shills for unbridled influx of refugees whom we cannot/not afford regardless of their situation…. Finland is in an economic slump. Those who still have jobs are being taxed to the hilt and there’s no/no appetite for throwing more $$$$ at supporting refugees/asylum seekers when our own people are in a bad economic place and suffering themselves (gov’ts are obligated by law to safeguard their own citizens first!!!)…. Funny thing is, that this foolish policy of ‘open doors’ is supported by people (who own this blog) and have come from countries with curious histories of their own approach to democracy…. yet feel they have a moral right to crap on the outcome of our democratic process…. Socialism is wonderful until you run out of other people’s money….. Margaret Thatcher….

Your reference to Thatcher says it all of course. You are far right. That is your good right, but this website is vowing for a balanced, warm-heartedly and open approach to migration. That is also part of democracy. I’s even say more: a democracy needs countervoices and needs radical thinkers (both from the right as the left) and needs some conflict. Please do not try to silence those voices you do not like, like Thatcher did amongst others.

Good thing that people stand up against racist speakers of Parliament.

Citing Thatcher: you are a far right element.

Hurray for the activists, boo hoo to the racist speaker of Parliament.
