Shameless Europe does not care if you live or die

We cannot just snuggle here and see who comes to the border. We must promote the values of the EU with greater determination because without these values we are worthless.

We just read about the tragic death of 27 people when attempting to cross the English Channel. One of the victims was a pregnant woman with three children, according to The Guardian.

Even if Britain and France are pointing the finger, nothing will change, and refugees, people, will continue to die.

The cold-hearted treatment and hostility towards people attempting to apply for asylum in the EU show that Europe is addicted to lies.

The lie has had terrible consequences. For one, 44,746 people have drowned while crossing the Mediterranean between 1993 and 2021, according to United.

Meanwhile, four Social Democratic and three Center Party members of the parliamentary administrative committee expressed opposition to plans by the interior ministry to grant all undocumented migrants a residence permit, reports Helsingin Sanomat.

The chair of the administrative committee, which is responsible for immigration affairs, is Perussuomalaiset (PS)* chairperson Riikka Purra. Other anti-immigration members of the committee include Jussi Halla-aho (PS), Mauri Peltokangas (PS), Juha Pylväs (Center Party), and Heikki Vestman (National Coalition Party).

The proposal by the interior ministry is sensible. Thanks to the law (2/2016), which did away with granting residence permits on humanitarian grounds, forced the number of undocumented migrants to soar from a few hundred to thousands.

We should not be surprised that the Social Democratic and Center Party oppose granting residence status to undocumented migrants. In 2016, the majority of MPs from these parties voted to do away with granting residence permits on humanitarian grounds.

One of the Social Democrat MP that voted in favor of the law was Helsinki Deputy Mayor for Education Nasima Razmyar. Veteran Social Democratic MPs like Erkki Tuomioja voted against the law.

Some undocumented migrants in Finland are families.

It would be a positive step to end their suffering and legal limbo.
