An Espoo District Court sentenced Monday an eighteen-year-old man for six years in jail for the manslaughter of Abdisalam Mohamed Abulah, 18. The father of the victim, Mursal Abdulah, told Migrant Tales that he will appeal the decision.
Abdulah is one of three victims who lost his life in a span of about three weeks in January-February. Related to one of the killings in Finland’s “black February” was a suicide and a Perussuomalaiset (PS) councilor, who offered to give a medal to a white Finn for killing one of the Muslims in Oulu.
Abdisalam Mohamed Abdulah had plans to study medicine. He was a Manchester United fan.
Helsingin Sanomat reports that the victim, who attended the same high school as the sentenced young man, went to sleep at his home because he had lost the keys to his home.
Migrant Tales understands that the young man sentenced for manslaughter admitted consuming 16 bottles of beer and drugs when he killed Abdulah.
The fight erupted at the parent’s home of the young man, who slept in a room in the basement. He asked Abdulah if he was a Muslim, who responded that he was. He then asked Abdulah what he thought about Jesus.
Abdulah didn’t answer the question and told him that he did not want to talk about religion. There was silence between the two and soon a fight erupted, according to the sentenced man, who claimed that he feared Abdulah.
Abdulah lost his life when the assailant assaulted him on the head with a metal bar for weights.
Racist coupons were found in mid-July at the trial.

What kind of a sentence the father appeals for?
All i can do is but to sigh! This man who committed a vicious manslaughter is only going to sit 3YEARS! imagine 3 got damn years? is’t this encouragement to other xenophobic Finns? becus they’re plenty of them, and this pice of cake time will not keep them instanct. This Somalian life was a worth to a people, if not to Finns, i really don’t understand what’s going on, this is a proof that our lives aint worth of nothing. Thank you Finland for your justice.
Either you have not following media and reported prison sentences in Finland, but this is quite normal sentence in Finland. Murderes gets short sentences (especially if they are a first timers) and many rapists don’t get anything.
Yes, I think Finland’s justice system is, well, crappy, but I don’t think it would “encourage” to people start killing each others (except maybe if you are crazy person). For me your message sounded like only people who are killing somali are getting short sentences in Finland, but actually it does apply others are well.
Even on Hommaforum people expressed their horror that you can get away with so short sentence for killing a person. In my opinion, law should be changed to get tougher sentences for violent crimes.
However, I remember that when I last time presented the same opinion, Mark opposed the idea by saying that it would not reduce crime. However, if we think like that, why don’t we then shorten the sentences even further? Or maybe we should stop sentencing criminals altogether, if it doesn’t help.
I heard 9 years but not sure, Yossie, how do you see the case. Has the justice been done or served?
not too big conclusions can be made out of this. it is more or less the words of the killer we rely on. And if any medical report support this, apparently it does since he was convicted so quickly.
Justice served or done. The penalty for this is between one and 10 years. Based on the assumptions that they were pals and got into dispute I think this sentence is pretty hard.

No. 654 of 2001 was an amendment to the Finnish Penal Code concerning aggravated assault and narcotics possession. It’s not clear why you should refer to this at all.
The statutory minimum sentence for manslaughter is imprisonment for 8 years (RL 21:1). This has evidently been reduced by one quarter because the offender was under 18 years of age at the time of the offence (RL 6:8.2).
As far as I can tell, 6 years is therefore the maximum term of imprisonment that the court could legally impose for the crime of manslaughter in this case.
well.. can there really be justice there when the guy is dead and nothing brings him back what ever they decide.
Justice has been served like it is served in here. The assailant gets 6 maybe that 9 years. Being young and most likely first timer gets him hefty discounts for his sentence. He is out in no time.
The finnish justice system tends to go towards bringing or at least hoping to bring the assailants back to normal life as “cured” people. How the victims families feel about seeing the assailants going free and having the good life they denied from others… It sure might not feel right.
